Which is the best laptop for a student of Computer Science?

As a student of computer science, you would need to perform a lot of coding, programming and other project related work including web browsing, data processing, emails, etc. Most of those tools are available for free and doesn’t require a powerful machine.

I usually recommend a Linux or Ubuntu Laptop for computer science students. Linux is a powerful command line operating system which is based on Unix. There are some amazing tools for programming, web development and application development that are available for free in Linux / GNU systems. But free or open source tools are also available for Windows systems.

So before shopping for a portable computer, you should decide the budget and its primary operating system.

Few notebooks are oversubscribed with none OS (DOS / UNIX operating system kernel), so you’ll need to install it yourself.

If budget is an issue, you can always look for a cheap budget notebook costing around or even less than Rs.20,000. But I’ll suggest a budget of around 35-40,000 rupees as Laptops with 8GB RAM are available at this range. The capacity of RAM is more important than the power of CPU or Graphics in this case.
